Family Guy - Season 15

Longtime collaborators Carrie Fisher and Adam West are commemorated in "Family Guy Season Fifteen."

Seth MacFarlane's animated series suffered deep, personal losses in late 2016 and 2017 with the deaths of Fisher, who played Peter Griffin's stern brewery boss Angela, and West as the same-named Quahog mayor. The DVD features pay homage to both icons.

"Family Guy Remembers Carrie Fisher" interviews several producers, who effuse over the legendary actor with similar accolades: "quick-witted, funny, honest, fun-loving, professional, great sense of humor, whip-smart, unapologetic, daring, beautiful, trend-setting, amazing actor, gifted writer, awesome."

They admit that Fisher and the Star Wars franchise have always influenced their writers' room (MacFarlane loved her in The 'Burbs as well), so when Peter got a new job in 2003, they wrote her a part.

Fisher brought her dog and a "great spirit" to her recording sessions, and, along with her voice work, left behind memories such as photos signed with "We'll always have Alderaan."

The creative team is grateful to Fisher, who died unexpectedly after Christmas 2016, and is "sad to lose her, a national treasure" but are thrilled that she "created quite a legacy in her time here."

The "Adam West Tribute" is a package of his most non sequitur, oddball, fearless clips playing a quirky, animated version of himself. West, first recognized as television's tongue-in-cheek Batman, died in 2017 at age 88.

This season features 20 episodes, 16 uncensored here, with guest stars including baller Steph Curry, bassist Flea, brooding Sean Penn, and Brit David Tennant, along with deleted scenes.

A standout episode is #7, "High School English," featuring interpretations of commonly taught (and frequently banned) books "The Great Gatsby," "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," and "Of Mice and Men."

In F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel rewrite, during the "funny car horn era," nouveau riche Jay Gatsby (Brian) encounters neighbor Nick "The Situation" Carraway (Stewie) and says "I just met you so I want to tell you something very private on the dock." Gatsby professes his love for Daisy Buchanan (Lois), who happens to be Nick's cousin, offering "a lot of weird coincidences [mostly with driving others' cars] for an American classic."

Peter plays Huck, Chris plays Tom Sawyer (for whom Rush play their eponymous song) and Cleveland is "I can say half your name" Jim in the brief remake of the Mark Twain classic.

The take on the third tome is "about idiots choking rodents," where "sexy imbecile" Lennie (Chris) "likes to kill animals and then a lady." George (Stewie) tells evil Curley (Quagmire) "I can tell by the fact that you wear a single, Vaseline-filled leather glove that you're a reasonable man."

"Good night, kids. Good luck with those book reports," says Stewie, exiting the episode. "Family Guy" appears more efficacious than Shmoop.com.
