Family Guy - Season 13

The highlight of "Family Guy Season Thirteen," is the crossover show with their inspiration/nemesis in "The Simpsons Guy."

Comparisons between the series begin with their colors: "Don't drink the water in Springfield. Looks like everyone has hepatitis," advises Peter Griffin when his family is stranded after their car is stolen.

When the families meet at the Kwik-E-Mart, Homer buys his favorite d'oh-nuts for their "albino visitors."

Bart compares his "eat my shorts" exclamation with Stewie's "what the deuce?" and the battle of taste between Duff beer versus Pawtucket Patriot ale adds to the many series similarities.

A courtroom scene also exposes the multiple doubles: two principals, two newscasters, two doctors, two African-American best friends, two sea captains, and, oddly, two James Woodses.

"On the Road to Springfield: The Making of 'The Simpsons Guy'" extra has Seth MacFarlane's writers (some whom had previous worked on the Matt Groening series) dismissing a "terrible rivalry" between the similar Fox cartoons. "We love 'The Simpsons,'" they say. "But we know we'll probably never do this again, so it had to be epic," including a long car wash sequence to "Pour Some Sugar on Me," and a lengthy "chicken fight" dubbed "worst ever" by Comic Book Guy.

The Family Guy folks were grateful that the more established, multiple Emmy-winning series runners were "gracious and hands off," and Lois Griffin actor Alex Borstein said the first table reading was extremely satisfying. Viewers tweeted "Not terrible" so the writers were satisfied.

In addition to "The Simpsons Guys," Disc 1 also includes "The Book of Joe" (who writes a story about a disabled squirrel), "Baking Bad" (a Lois cookie venture), "Brian the Closer" (a real estate adventure), and "Turkey Guys" (Peter and Brian try to save Thanksgiving).

Disc 2 features "The 2000-Year-Old Virgin" (Jesus), "Stewie, Chris and Brian's Excellent Adventure" (helping Chris study for his history test via time machine), "Our Idiot Brian" (SAT test gone wrong), "This Little Piggy," "Quagmire's Mom" and "Encyclopedia Griffin."

The third disc's extras have hilarious montages of Stewie in "Baby Ways" and Brian in "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Stewie is impregnated by Brian in "Stewie is Enceinte," Cleveland becomes an unlicensed therapist in "Dr. C & the Women," "#JOLO" is all about Joe, "Once Bitten" sends Brian to obedience school, Peter is reluctantly roasted in "Roasted Guy," Liam Neeson stars in "Fighting Irish," and the final episode is couples counseling in the tropics in "Take My Wife." Deleted scenes and some audio commentary are also included on each DVD.
