The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water

"The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water"is an experience that is equally fun for little children and big stoners.

If you're at all familiar with the Nickelodeon animated series, the same themes and plotlines continue in this movie. A sanguine sea sponge named Bob (Tom Kenny) lives in a pineapple under the sea with his friends, an echinoderm named Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) and a rodent, Sandy Cheeks (Carolyn Lawrence). SpongeBob is content as can be to fry cook for Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) and occasionally stave off the machination of the copepod Plankton (Mr. Lawrence).

When the secret recipe for the Krusty Krab's Krabby Patties is destroyed, and SpongeBob is unable to remember it (even though he makes them every day), the land of Bikini Bottom is plunged into a post-apocalyptic nightmare where everyone has a mohawk and wears leather bondage gear. (Because even though their world is savage and lawless, they keep up with post-apocalyptic fashion.)

To get back that recipe and save his world, SpongeBob will (as the title promises) emerge from his watery world and enter our atmosphere (with magical powers he receives from a super-intelligent dolphin from the future). Not only that, but he gives himself and his friends superpowers to take on a new adversary: The pernicious pirate Burger Beard, played with live-action splendor by the ever-sensational Antonio Banderas.

This Blu-ray has over an hour of all kinds of extras: Four making-of featurettes, an educational film on marine biology, a mockumentary, two music video, three sing-alongs and even a pretentious black and white art film.

If you've ever wondered what SpongeBob and his friends would look like if they had six-pack abs and hung out with grease-covered, half-naked people on the beach, look no further.
